I sent out an e-mail to the BUDS distribution list, which contained the following request for feedback:

It is almost time for Summer League registration, but before that can take place, we need to finalize the actual offerings. This is an open invitation to any and all people who are interested in shaping this year's summer league to attend a planning meeting to be held: Wednesday March 26th, 7-9pm, location to be determined based on interest.

Everything is up for discussion, from whether or not to have a separate membership fee, to what types of registrations and team assignments will be used.

If you are unable to attend, you can send suggestions and feedback by e-mail, although attendance is encouraged so that you'll be able to provide feedback on other people's suggestions. RSVP to burnaby@bcdss.bc.ca

Field options:

Mondays: May 5 – Jun 30 6-8pm Byrne Creek; Jul 7 – Aug 25 6-10pm Byrne Creek. Byrne Creek supports 2 Ultimate fields, and is lit.

Tuesdays: May 6 – Aug 26 6-9pm Burnaby Lake East 3 & 4. Burnaby Lake East supports 2 North-South Ultimate fields or 3 East-West Ultimate fields.

Thursdays: May 8 – Aug 28 6-9pm Burnaby Lake East 3 & 4; May 1 – Jun 26 6-9pm Greentree Village; Apr 10 – Aug 28 8-10pm Byrne Creek. Burnaby Lake East supports 2 North-South Ultimate fields or 3 East-West Ultimate fields; Greentree Village supports 2 smallish Ultimate fields (but is a lower quality field); Byrne Creek supports 2 Ultimate fields and is lit.

What follows is the feedback, I've received from people who will not actually be attending the meeting.

"- I think the membership fee discourages registration for those people on the fence. I know its dissuaded some of my friends. However, if the club needs money then I think it would be preferrable to have slightly higher fees for each session/semester rather than have a membership fee.
- I would prefer having ulti at burnaby lake either on tuesday or thursday. I think burnaby lake has a nice community sense about it even tho the field is kinda mucky sometimes. Plus, we would have the field longer for those lovely summer evenings (6-9 rather than 6-8 on other fields)."

"I won’t be able to attend the planning meeting next Wednesday, but I’d like to add my voice to any who support Tuesday nights as my preferred night for Burnaby ulti.

Tuesdays: May 6 – Aug 26 6-9pm Burnaby Lake East 3 & 4. Burnaby Lake East supports 2 North-South Ultimate fields or 3 East-West Ultimate fields.

I’m also wondering if it makes sense to try to “fill up” one night of ultimate (say, Tuesday ;>)), before allowing registration on a second night. I played last year on Monday nights and noticed that we nearly always had insufficient players to use both fields. I thought that perhaps if we focused on only 1 night first, then this might ensure that we don’t dilute the number of available players.

"I won't be able to make it to March 26th meeting as I have a prior meeting going on.

My preference would be Tuesday and/or Thursday nights at Burnaby Lakes (although Greentree village is right next to my work so that would be nice... prefer the fields at Burnaby Lake). I'm booked Mondays."

"Hey Dave, I won't be able to attend the meeting due to prior commitments, but I do think maintaining games on Tuesday and Thursday nights are a good idea. Jul 7 – Aug 25 6-10pm Byrne Creek is a definite must. That is a damned sweet amount of time booked off for ulti."

"My first preference would be to continue play on Mondays. Tuesday works
too, but Thursday I'll be playing in the VUL so that wouldn't work for moi."
