As some of you already know, I have been planning a C-Tier PDGA tournament to be held at Robert Burnaby Park.

Dates/Times: If all goes according to plan, it will be on March 20th and 21st. Saturday start will be early, players meeting at 8:30 start by 9:00 at the very latest (may have to be earlier). Sunday will be a 9:30am meeting 10:00 start.

Format: Singles. Two rounds Saturday, one round Sunday. 20 holes per round. Course changes every round. 7 holes will have 3 different pin positions, 4 holes will have 2 different positions, and 9 will remain constant. 5 holes use baskets on the rec course, the other 15 will be portables.

This weekend, Sunday January 24th, we will be setting up what is to be the Saturday afternoon configuration of the 2010 Burnaby Open.

We will be set up in the morning by 9:30am, with a Singles round tee off by 9:45. There is no set fee to play the singles round, but side bets are welcome.

I hope to be able to take a short break, and start the second round (Doubles) by 1:30. Anyone wishing to participate in random flip doubles at 1:30 will be in for $5 ($4 to payouts $1 to club).

Meeting will take place at the parking lot on 4th street by Elwell at the Baseball Field:

See you at the park, Sunday @ 9:30am

Do you need to be a PDGA member to participate in this tournament? If not, what are the advantages of becoming one?

No

PDGA membership is not required for the 2010 Burnaby Open.

PDGA members do receive a $10 discount on their entry fee to PDGA tournaments.

An amateur PDGA membership costs $50 and lasts until the end of the calendar year.
If you plan on playing in more than one PDGA tournament in a year, it gets more worth it.
There will be at least 3 other PDGA tournaments in BC this year.
This link will show you more benefits of joining the PDGA:

http://www.pdga.com/members/benefits

If you don't think you want to join the PDGA before the tournament, you can pay the extra $10 and receive a 'supporting membership' card. This card entitles you to a free mini-marker and rulebook, or $10 off a full PDGA Membership if you decide to join later. The following link has more information about supporting memberships:

http://www.pdga.com/supporting

Current BCDSS members will also receive a $5 discount at the Burnaby Open. To join the BCDSS you can join a club or as an individual member. BCDSS memberships last until the end of April. Most club memberships are $10. Here is a link to a list of BCDSS recognized clubs:

More information about entry fees, course layouts, and registration will be posted soon.

Our first PDGA tournament of 2010 is fast approaching.

I can confirm at this time that there is $80 added Pro Cash, with more to come.

The first prize in Advanced is an Innova Disc Catcher Sport (portable, all metal, basket).

The Intermediate winner will receive a Mini Basket in addition to their other prizes.

There will be a $1 putting contest with another Mini Basket as the prize.

For those of you coming from out of town, the Happy Day Inn at 7330 6th St. is less than a 10 minute walk to tournament central:

http://www.happydayinn.com/home.asp

Or for those who want a brand name hotel there is a Best Western @ 5411 Kingsway which is about a 10 minute drive away:

http://www.bestwesternkingsinn.com/

The course will be available for play on Friday the 19th by 2pm, so come early and check it out!
Friday night is also the deadline for payment, to keep things quick and easy on Saturday morning.

There will be free Starbucks Coffee for participants on Saturday Morning, so you can wake up 10 minutes later!
There should be a cup for everyone, but be early just in case.

Players meeting @ 8:45am to make sure there is enough time for both rounds and a good break.

See you there.
