What is the ICE BOWL?

The Ice Bowl originated in 1987 in Columbia Missouri to get some disc golfing activities going in the dead of winter. This event happens world wide between the dates of January 11th- February 16th. Each event is encouraged to find a charity to support along with a local food bank, to promote the sport of disc golf and aid in a worldly cause. Last year there was over $86.000 raised (world wide), which leads us to our 2005 goal of $100.000 (world wide). The concept is one of "no wimps or whiners allowed!" The date set for the Ice Bowl tournament is to be kept no matter what the weather condition is. Not knowing what the weather will be adds to the challenge of the event because dedicated disc golfers don’t want to be called "wimps." Disc golf is a lot of fun, quite challenging, and relatively inexpensive to play. We have designed a format that greatly encourages people who have never played before to come out and try this new sport, while supporting our charities of choice, the food bank, BC Alzheimer society and Tsunami relief aid through the Canadian Red Cross.

World Disc Golf Competitor Michelle Wilson PDGA# 24986 and head board members the Langley Disc Golf Association are hosting a charity disc golf fund raising tournament endorsed by the "Disc Golf Branch" of the British Columbia’s Disc Sport Society (DGB) to raise money for the BC Alzheimer’s society (charitable Reg# BN11878 4891RR0001). The Food bank (charity Reg# 132230459RR0001and in global aid for the recent Tsunami of 2004, donations to the Canadian Red Cross (charity Reg# 11921984RR0001).
Everyone’s contribution is greatly encouraged as these societies are consistently in great need of continual support. The active members of the growing sport of disc golf are promoting their game which is a very similar sport to the game of "golf "; however, aerodynamically weighted Frisbee’s are thrown to a chain-linked steel basket that stands 7ft. off the ground and has many natural objects in it’s path.
The disc golfers of the greater Vancouver region are involved in a world wide charitable fundraising challenge called the "ICE BOWL CHALLENGE" Where disc golfers and communities pull together to become the leading region for the 2005 Ice Bowl challenge and the Greater Canadian Ice Bowl Challenge with the most amount of participants and money\items raised for 2005 across Canada and the United states.
